Advocacy and Awareness Workshop on the Recognition of Unpaid Domestic Work: The Role of Policymakers and Civil Society Actors

The Regional Consortium for Research in Generational Economics (CREG), in partnership with the Population Reference Bureau (PRB), the Association for the Support of Women’s Development in Benin (AADEF-Benin), and the Association Cœur Solidaire (ACS), is organizing an advocacy and awareness workshop on the recognition of unpaid domestic work (UDW).

This workshop is part of the project:

“Supporting the Development of Policies on Unpaid Care Work for Intergenerational Equity in Togo and Benin,” with support from IDRC and Global Affairs Canada.

The workshop aims to strengthen the recognition of unpaid domestic work, largely carried out by women, and to promote its integration into public policies.

The objectives are to raise awareness among stakeholders about the issues surrounding unpaid domestic work, strengthen advocacy for gender-responsive public policies, mobilize civil society organizations around collective action, and formulate recommendations for decision-makers.

The workshop will bring together representatives of women’s rights organizations, political actors, officials from state institutions, as well as experts from CREG, who will provide continuous technical and scientific support throughout the proceedings.

Dates: April 28–29, 2026
Venue: Chant d’Oiseau, Cotonou

Introductory presentations, testimonies, panel discussions, and group work sessions will be followed by a reporting session dedicated to drafting and validating recommendations.
