The “Care Work and the Economy” project aims to improve understanding and management of the care economy, with particular reference to the needs of childcare and care for the elderly. The project seeks to integrate gender dimensions into macroeconomic models, develop methodological tools to assess the costs and economic benefits of investments in care services, and estimate future care demands by taking into account projections of population growth, labor market participation and health status.
This worldwide initiative delves into the provision of both compensated and uncompensated caregiving across nine nations. The structuring of care significantly influences our economic and social framework, affecting every person therein. It intertwines with factors such as gender, age, migration status, citizenship, race, and socio-economic disparities.
The “CUIDADO Y GÉNERO” (CARE ECONOMIES IN CONTEXT) project is a consultoría project that aims to characterize care travel (or “viajes de cuidado”) in Bogotá, taking into account different approaches and genders. The project aims to make visible and evaluate the daily displacements associated with care work, highlighting the importance of recognizing and supporting carers, especially women.
