Care Economy and Decent Work: CREG Participates in the 7th Edition of the Women’s Trade Union Academy in Benin
How can the care economy become a driver of social justice and gender equality in the workplace?
From October 12 to 14, 2026, the 7th edition of the Women’s Trade Union Academy is taking place at the Bel Azur Hotel in Grand-Popo, Benin, under the theme: “Care Economy and Decent Work: What Trade Union Strategies for Social Justice and Gender Equality?”
Regional Consortium for Research in Generational Economics (CREG) is represented at the event by Dr. Camille GUIDIMÉ, a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Economics and Management (FASEG) of the University of Parakou. He will address issues relating to the care economy and workers’ rights. His presentation is entitled “The Care Economy in Benin: Clarifying the Concept, Key Issues, and Links with Decent Work.” His contribution will deepen participants’ understanding of care work, its contribution to the functioning of the economy, and the inequalities arising from its distribution and lack of recognition.
This edition brings together women trade union leaders from Benin and Togo to discuss challenges related to social protection, the recognition and value of care occupations, and gender equality in the workplace. Discussions also focus on trade union strategies, particularly the 5R approach: Recognize, Reduce, Redistribute, Reward, and Represent care work.
