Work Package 4: Connecting to global ‘care economies in context’ programme
Aim
To ensure:
- Cross-fertilization of ideas, and the development of comparative data collection and analysis between Africa and other regions as part of the global ‘Care Economies in Context’ programme;
- Mutual skills sharing and capacity strengthening of African students and young scholars/researcher and those from other regions;
- An explicit effort to develop African theorizing on care that engages critically with currently hegemonic Anglo-European centric theories and constructs to advance global scientific debates;
- An effort to explore where and how salient care arrangements in Africa may be relevant for exploration and consideration in other regions.
Elements
WP4 will address its aim through a combination of:
- Dedicated reviews of relevant conceptual and theoretical frames in the global scientific literature;
- Strategic planning meetings (virtual and in person), bringing together key scholars from our program and those from other regions involved in the ‘Care Economies in Context’ project, to shape joint theoretical and conceptual frames, epistemological and methodological approaches;
- Strategic analysis meetings (virtual and in person) to develop joint, including comparative, analyses and outputs building on empirical data emerging from Africa and other regions;
- Student exchanges, collaborations and joint mentorship/training of students and young scholars/researchers from Africa (and other regions) involved in the ‘Care Economies in Context’ project.
