1,480 Billion CFA Francs: The Value of Invisible Work in Togo

In Togo, Unpaid Domestic and Care Work (UDCW) represents an estimated value of 1,480.13 billion CFA francs. More significantly, 79.8% of this invisible wealth is generated by women. Behind these figures lie concrete realities: severe time poverty and limited opportunities to access education, employment, entrepreneurship, and decision-making spaces.

How can these data be transformed into local policy decisions?

This is precisely the focus of the National Capacity-Building Workshop for Local Elected Officials on UDCW and the Dissemination of the Saly Declaration, held on October 9, 2026, in Lomé, and organized by the NGO Cœur Solidaire, as part of the P3RTDNR Benin-Togo project. The workshop will bring together mayors, including several women, to discuss the mechanisms available to local authorities to recognize, reduce, and redistribute unpaid domestic and care work.

The Regional Consortium for Research in Generational Economy (CREG) is contributing its expertise and evidence-based data on UDCW in Togo to this discussion. The objective is to further connect data, municipal planning, and budgetary decisions, so that the care economy can have a concrete place in local policies and investments.

From invisible work to public action: turning data into a lever for more equal communities.
